SUMMER NEWS & OFFERINGS

Purple Coneflowers are among my favorite flowers

This newsletter was originally sent on July 5, 2022

Hello all. It is summer, and July is my birthday month!

IN MY HEART

While the state of the world and the legal freedoms which are being eroded in this country weigh heavy on my mind, I am moving forward with reverie as I approach my birthday and enjoy this beautiful summer because resilience is what gets us through, and I have some plans in the works to make sure my community is resourced as times get harder (details below!). We will make it because we have each other. You may like this song from my favorite musical - which recently ran at the Waldron Arts Center - while you pump yourself up for your own resilient summer.

ON THE WEB

A map to the office and the parking lot are now present in all confirmation emails and on the Contact page of the website. Hot Stone add-ons have been updated and may be added to any session (except prenatal massage) upon booking.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Oak's Block Party for the Modern Witch was a huge success! I was thrilled to have my mom with me and to experience the illumination of the abundant community we have in this town. To those of you who came for chair massage, welcome! To those of you who waved, thank you for being there! My only regret is that because my offerings were so popular, I barely had time to browse with the other vendors. So I'll look forward to the next round.

I am teaching this summer! The one-hundred level clinic students have received special review time in which we have walked through the muscle trails listed in the incredible textbook Trail Guide to the Body, as well as time to practice and review their hands-on techniques before inviting in the public for massage sessions. My hope is that this will build them up as better therapists before they get wrapped up in the interpersonal service aspect of this work. Please come on down to Ivy Tech to serve as a practice body Monday through Wednesday if you like. You may book at this link.

As mentioned In My Heart, I am working with my teacher Ashley Hartman Annis of Madison, WI to bring a six week intensive introduction to Fertility Awareness for pregnancy prevention to our Bloomington community. Details are still in development but we will be working on Zoom, starting in September, and on a sliding-scale basis. In anticipation of this, all gratuity from the month of July will be added to a fund for two scholarships for this class, which will prioritize Black students, Indigenous students, and students of Color.

If you are interested in taking this class, please keep an eye out for details on Instagram and right here in your inbox. If you cannot wait until September to begin adding this skill to your toolbox, you can check out Ashley on her Patreon, where she has been doing education toward this work and more for well over a year now.

ON THE MENU

Following the completion of my level 2 class and integration of the posterior bodywork, Abdominal Therapy is now available only as a 90 minute session for my usual 90 minute rate of $120. My sliding-scale offering for those experiencing pregnancy loss will remain as it has been. Clients seeking Abdominal Therapy will be asked to do three focused sessions before moving on to integrating the work into more general therapeutic massage.

My Botanical Oil offerings include sunflower and jojoba oils infused with Rose or Lavender, hand crafted by me. Also available are Blossom and the Bee’s Flower Power Oil, and Wild Mint Apothecary’s Womb Massage Oil, both of which are blended herbal infusions. Any of these can be added to a session for $5.

IN MY HANDS

As of July 1st, I am no longer on the books at Bloomington Massage & Bodyworks. It was a pleasure to work there with Carmela and the team over the last year while I built up myself and my skills after my nine month pandemic-induced hiatus from massage. BM&B is a special place for massage therapists and clients with its quiet atmosphere and simple and supportive protocols. I would recommend any massage therapist work there (I have sent several of my students and colleagues!) and am only moving on because the abundance has grown within my teaching gig and this private practice. With that I say thank you to every single one of you - including Carmela! - and announce that I am now taking clients on Mondays and Thursdays at In My Hands. So, if you have struggled to find a spot on my schedule, look again.

With love, gratitude, and solidarity,

Kara
