THE BIOMAT
The BioMat is the most beautiful piece of thermotherapy equipment I have ever had the privilege of using. The first time I had heard of one was when a friend and client told me she had had a session with one during a crystal healing service. Those close to me know I have a special place in my heart for rocks of all kinds, so when my friend told me this mat was inlaid with Amethyst crystals, I was taken. I soon forgot about it, as happens with many things which are said to me from the massage table and completely unrelated to the structure of the body on the table.
Time passed to October 2020. I was working on the farm and feeling the strain of the financial struggle so many of us were in at that time. I walked into Moon Stones to ask about a shopkeeping position, and was instead pointed to the massage table Moon Stones had acquired a year before to host their BioMat. They had only been able to offer a session with it to one client before the pandemic took its firm grip on our region of the world, and it had been sitting ever since. “When you want to resume your massage practice, I would love to have you here.” And so it was that the BioMat opened the door to my current arrangement! But I digress…
The BioMat utilizes Amethyst crystals as the vector for far-infrared rays which help to increase local circulation and relax the muscles, “similar to the energy that radiates from the sun.” These are paired with Tourmaline crystals, through which negative ions (anions) are emitted. If you are a fan of Himalayan salt lamps, you may already be familiar with the claim that anions relieve stress and boost our energy. So imagine a warm bed crafted of a Himalayan Salt lamp, nestled in the middle of a small island at the base of a gentle waterfall. Laying here is what the BioMat feels like. I also imagine a reptile sunbathing on a warm rock. More than an electric heating pad, the BioMat combines 17 layers of conductive fabric and crystals to generate its infrared heat. When I tried it the first time, just to lay upon it, I felt as if I had had a full body massage. My first client to try it experiences chronic pain, and said after her session she walked up the stairs to her apartment without pain for the first time in two years. Doesn’t that make you curious?
